October 8th SFC Meeting

Scheduled Presenter: Chip O'Brien

Program titled “Thank You, Silas Goodrich.” 

Description: Goodrich was the angler on the Lewis & Clark Expedition and he was the first non-Native to catch what we call the Westslope cutthroat trout as recorded in 1805. The program is about two of Idaho’s best cutthroat trout streams, the NF Coeur d’Alene River and the St. Joe Rivers. 

Chip O'Brien, former Santiam Flycasters member and popular presenter. O'Brien worked as a Northern California fly fishing guide for fourteen seasons, a school teacher and a Regional Manager for CalTrout,  He has been a regular contributor to California Fly Fisher and Northwest Fly Fishing magazines, as well as authoring books including River Journal, Sacramento River (1996) and California's Best Fly Fishing and Premier Streams and Rivers from Northern California to the Eastern Sierra (2009).  Chip's writing shares insight in: technique, conservation, history, entomology, equipment and the fragile places that should be protected. Life took him from California to Oregon then, eventually, to Spokane where he currently resides within easy striking distance of the Idaho Panhandle and Montana.
