Fish Fling 2004

The annual Fish Fling was a success. I would like to thank all of the Santiam Flycasters who attended. We placed about 200 salmon carcasses in the Santiam River. I would also like to thank Bart DeBow from ODFW. The weather was a little chilly and rainy. We did warm ourselves around a nice fire during the lunch provided by the club.

We placed the salmon carcasses to return nutrients that spawned salmon provide to the watershed, since the salmon are blocked from returning to the river by the dams on the Santiam River. Do ODFW are trucking salmon around the dams, but only in small numbers compared to the thousands that would be returning to spawn if the dams were not in place.
